Excellent paper. I've personally used kratom for a very similar purpose (chronic nerve pain)and have to completely agree with the statement regarding how Mitragyna can abate the far more unpleasant withdraw from strong narcotics, but its own absence causes little distress. This is an amazing plant ally that can help and heal tremendously. Hopefully the powers-that-be will realize this instead of rushing it into a C-II schedule.
